FRED SANDOVAL Fred R. Sandoval was born March 24, 1923 to Ruby R. and Jose M. Sandoval. He attended local public schools and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1941. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army and served with the 16th Signal Operation Battalion in the Pacific. For his service he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars; The Philippine Liberation ribbon; The Army of Occupation Medal with Japan clasp; The American Campaign Medal; A Meritorious Unit Emblem; The World War II Victory Medal and The Good Conduct medal. After the war he was employed at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory as a draftsman. In July of 1981 he completed 35 years of employment and retired at that time. Most of his career was with Technical Group CMB-7 at the DMR Building and he retired as Chief Draftsman of that Group. He is preceded in death by parents Jose and Ruby Sandoval; parents-in-law, Antonio and Ramoncita Rael; son, Anthony; son-in-law, Alvaro Vigil Jr.; and numerous beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Consuelo Rael Sandoval; daughter Marie T. Vigil; daughter, Dolores Bornman (Stephen), Gina Ortiz (Michael), Frances Padilla (George); son, Martin; sisters: Frances Hurtado of Plano, TX, and Margaret Sandoval; 9 grandchildren and spouses; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great- great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be: Richard Vigil, Fred Bornman, Eric Bornman, Michael Ortiz, Mark Ortiz and George Padilla. Honorary pallbearers are: Stephen Bornman, Greg Bornman, Gabriel Gabaldon, Damian Tapia, Mark Tapia and Rich Dowdican. A special thank you to the friendly and caring staff at Santa Fe Care Center.
