Bates, Viola Ann Hansen
Viola Ann Hansen Bates On August 14, 2015, Viola Ann Hansen Bates passed from this world in the arms of loved ones at the age of 82. Viola was born in Santa Fe, NM, on July 3, 1933. She grew up in Santa Fe at a time when it was a small town. Teams of horses and wagons, and trains of pack burros--50 to a string--bringing the firewood into town was a common sight at that time. She loved riding her horse in the foothills. Viola attended the Santa Fe schools. She married John Walker Bates August 1951, and had three sons. Her passion was her beautiful flower garden and she had many hobbies: spinning, weaving, knitting, and jeeping in the high country of Colorado, just to name a few. Viola and John raised their family in Los Alamos and Las Vegas, NM, then later moved to Farmington. She has spent the last three years in the loving arms of her grandson, Brian Bates and his wife Jacqueline in Tijeras, NM. Viola was loved for her smile and joy she brought to all who were caregivers in these last years. Viola is preceded in death by her father John O. Hansen and mother Bessie Pearl Silliman Hansen, her husband John Walker Bates, son Stephen Dwayne Bates, and brothers Gerald Hansen and Donald Hansen. Viola is survived by her sister Norma Hansen Brown; brother Orville Hansen and his wife Betty Hansen; brother Wayne Hansen and his wife May Dean "Billie" Hansen; her son John Gary Bates, his daughter Sharon Lynn Bates Sessions and husband Byron Sessions (and their children Rio Walker and Sky Lynn Sessions), and his son Brian Lee Bates and wife Jacqueline Bates; her son Robert Lee Bates; and many nieces and nephews. We all love her and will remember her for the joy and beauty she brought to the world. The family celebrated her life at Brian and Jacqueline's home in Tijeras, NM

Bloom, Carol Lansing
CAROL LANSING BLOOM 1916-2015 Carol Bloom, born March 16, 1916, grew up in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, only daughter of the late Lansing Bartlett and Maude McFie Bloom. Graduating from UNM in 1939, she went East, as so many young New Mexicans do, for enhanced career opportunities. She volunteered for the US Army Air Force in World War II, initially classified as a "dictaphone typist." After brief service, Carol received a medical discharge by reason of psychotic problems. She pursued employment in many places in ensuing years, dogged until nearly her last years by those problems. Colorado proved to be a good fit, and she resided mostly in Greeley and Denver, fortunate to be accepted finally into the Community Living Center, US Veterans Administration Medical Center, Denver, where she passed away peacefully on August 7, 2015, at age 99. Interment took place at Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley, August 14. She is survived by her brother, John Porter Bloom, and wife Jo Tice Bloom of Las Cruces; also by nephew John Lansing Bloom and family of Arlington, VA, and nieces Kathy Bloom Jassen and family of Great Falls, MT, and Iris Marie Bloom of High Falls, NY; and by numerous grand -nieces and -nephews.
