JEAN WILSON

EDITH JEAN CARTER WILSON Was called by our Lord on February 20, 2013. She was born August 20, 1942 in Springer, NM to Richard Lee and Mabel (Garnet) Walker. She spent her teenage years living in Santa Fe. She was raised by her Uncle Jim and Aunt Jody Leeder, who loved her like a daughter and whom she adored. She was co-owner of Wilson Transfer & Storage, with the love of her life, Don Wilson. Her most important job ever was being a loving wife, raising her children and grandchildren, and on occasion a niece/nephew or friend of the family. In her earlier years, she was a switch board operator for Mountain Bell. Mom was a "Jack of All Trades" - Master of Many, master gardener, fundraiser/bake sale extraordinaire, artist, seamstress, and bread maker. She was frugal and practical; as she made miracles happen with the means she was given. She loved tending her garden and fruit trees. In return, she used them to feed her family. 20 years ago, Mom began a tradition, "Tuesday Night, Family Night". It was very important for her to have her family together and keep in touch with life's hectic schedule. It was truly a joy for her to cook wonderful meals that her family cherished. It didn't matter what day of the week a birthday fell on, it would be celebrated on Tuesday with you favorite meal, followed with birthday cake and the "Birthday Bomb" candle. Her love of family history led to many hours tracing our roots. We all joked that she loved digging up dead people and she was going to trace us back to Adam & Eve. Because of her love of history and ancestry, we all have a greater understanding of where we come from. An outdoorsy woman, she loved camping and fishing. In 1994, she caught a 13 1/2 pound trout at Heron Lake, making her fish the Catch of the Week. Numerous weekends were spent at Monastery and El Vado Lakes. In 2001, the family cabin was purchased where she celebrated with those around her. She loved to party around the campfire with people old and new, sharing stories past and present. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents: William and Minnie Carter, Alvie and Charity "Walkee" Walker; her mother-in-law Mrs. Lee Wilson and numerous relatives. She is survived by her one and only love, husband of 47 years, Don Wilson; sister Suzy Putman (Frobin); brother, Al Vernon Carter (Beth); children: Jodie Wheeler (Bill), Kelly Wilson-Carrillo (Adam), Lee Wilson (Rebecca), and Andrea "Annie" Wilson (Chris Salazar); her grandchildren: Elissa and Anthony Wheeler, Donean and Donielle Carrillo, Christa and Sanaa Salazar and Antoinette Owens; great grandchildren: Samara, Nayeli and Javon; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless friends. A special thank you to Ken Peterson, whose compassionate and kind care for Mom was amazing. We couldn't have done this without you, Ken. In keeping the family tradition, her services will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ on Galisteo and Cordova. Reception will follow after services. In lieu of flowers, please make donation to PMS Hospice Care or plant a tree in her honor. As mom would Say, "Make sure it's not a damned Chinese Elm!"
