George Duross Obryan George Duross O'Bryan of Estaca, New Mexico, died unexpectedly of lung cancer on November 16, 2012. He was 65. He was the son of archeologist Deric O'Bryan and Pamela Milligan O'Bryan. He was born in Six Shooter Canyon, Globe, AZ., where his parents were working on an archeological dig. George is survived by his wife Nancy Gerhart O'Bryan. They had been married for 41 years. George's sisters Anne O'Bryan and Mary Patterson of England, and his brother Larry O'Bryan of Ireland also survive him. George's grandmother, Aileen (Nusbaum) O'Bryan was a well known writer of several books about Native American mythology. Aileen's mother, Mamie Josephine Otero O'Bryan, was the post mistress of Santa Fe and the sister of territorial governor Miguel Otero. George served in the Peace Corps on the island of Saipan in the mid 1960s. He became an expert skindiver and spear fisherman. He graduated from Prescott College in Arizona. In the mid 1990's George and his business partner Nancy Meem Wirth established John Gaw Meem Designs in an effort to bring back architectural details of regional style based on the work of John Meem. At the age of 63, George crossed the Atlantic with a friend on a forty foot schooner. George was passionate about fine woodworking design and craftsmanship. He left many beautiful things in this world to remember him by. He was a keen observer of the natural world, enjoying camping, hunting and gardening. He was dedicated to creating a sustainable lifestyle on his three acres along the Rio Grande River.
