Juanita Lucia Montoya (Gramma Gramma) Age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday October 8, 2012 at her home in Santa Fe. She was born to Pedro and Anita Tapia in Tapia, NM on June 28, 1927 where she was raised by her grandmother Cesaria Tapia. On September 18, 1946 she married Maclovio B. Montoya from Santa Fe, NM. Together they built their home and family on Agua Fria Street where they lived together until Mac's death on November 11, 2006. They raised their five children along with countless foster children. Juanita also helped raise and care for many of her grandchildren and great-grand children well into her 70's. She also worked for the New Mexico School for the Deaf. She is survived by her aunt Rosarito Marquez, her comadrita Pita MacAllister, Children, Gertrude (Orlando) Santana, Santos (Elena) Montoya, Elizabeth (Jon) Hill, Charles (Angela) Montoya, Susan Silva (Mike Dickenson), nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Delfinio (Lucy) Tapia, Mary Lou Sandoval, Libby (Tony) Martinez, Eloisa (Fred) Couty, Joe (Mary) Larranaga, Tommy Larranaga, Antonio (Judy) Larranaga, Charlotte Holtzclaw, numerous relatives and her dog Cruz. A Public Visitation will be on Thursday October 11, 2012 at Berardinelli Funeral Home from 5 to 7pm followed by a Rosary at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne's Catholic Church on Friday, October 12th at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with reception at the Santa Maria de la Paz Hall at 4pm. Juanita will always be remembered for her faith, her strength and her love for life. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also loved to be spoiled and her children made sure she was.
