Kathleen Barry Obituary

Kathleen Barry Age 59, of Santa Fe formally of Plano, TX and Aliquippa, PA passed away on Tuesday morning, January 12th after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Kathleen was the daughter of the late Frank S. Barkovich and Mary K. Barkovich. She is survived by two sisters, Patricia (Randy) Shawger of Georgetown, PA and Marikay Kalamatas of Schaumburg, IL; and one brother, Frank Barkovich of Aliquippa, PA. She was a loving aunt to, Sara Shawger of Santa Fe, NM, Bradley Shawger of Lexington Park, MD, Deanna Kalamatas of Naperville, IL, and Kristin Kalamatas of Elk Grove Village, IL. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in marketing and economics, she worked for many years at Rockwell International as a successful Senior Account Executive and most recently for AT&T. Kathleen grew up in western Pennsylvania and began her career in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois before moving to Plano, Texas. She lived there for 22 years where she was a very active member of Skydive Dallas. She participated in many skydiving formations, including the world record for the all female formation jump for breast cancer awareness. Travels for work brought her to Santa Fe, where she fell in love the culture and beautiful vistas. She moved to Santa Fe in 2006 where she planned to retire. One of Kathleen's most passionate causes was the rescue and care of stray and abandoned cats. She worked tirelessly in finding forever homes for hundreds of felines. At her death she was surrounded by her three beloved cats, Murphy, Molly and Mouse. She was also a former President of PAL, the Protective Animal League, in Richardson, TX. Visitation will be held at Berardinelli Family Chapel on Saturday, January 16, 2010, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, or other gifts, Kathleen has requested donations be made to the Espanola Valley Humane Society or Presbyterian Medical Services hospice.
