Manuelita "Mela" Rimbert Passed away peacefully, at Sierra Vista Retirement Community, on the 17th of May 2012. Mela was born on the 4th day of March 1915. She met her husband Leo Rimbert and they shared a life together for over 50 years in Mora, New Mexico before Leo passed away in 1990. Mela is also preceded in death by her infant son Joey Rimbert, son Frank Rimbert; sisters, Magdalena "Nena" Ortega, Lourdes "Lala" Trujillo and Evangeline "Vangie" Chavez; brothers, William Lujan and Eligio Lujan and cousin Tere Romo. She is survived by her daughter Betty Ann Starr (husband James) and son Eddie Rimbert (wife BC); Grandchildren Tiffany Starr-Salcido (husband Luis), Stacy Starr-Garcia (husband John); Great-Grandchildren Roxanne Starr-Trujillo (Roger Duran), Cassandra Starr-Salcido, Garrett Garcia, Dylan Starr-Salcido; Great-Great Grandchildren Markus Duran; Nieces Loretta Johnson and Armeda Ortega; Nephews, Daniel "Roy" Williams, Harold Trujillo, Arnold Trujillo and Errol Chavez (deceased) and many great nieces and nephews. Other family members, living out of state, Yvette Rimbert, Gary Rimbert, Karen Rimbert, Valerie Rimbert and their children. Mela graduated from Highlands University and was a Teacher in Mora, New Mexico. She touched many lives during her teaching career. She enjoyed camping, going on picnics, spending time with her family and traveling around the world, but always returned home to her beloved Mora. She was an active member, serving in various capacities, of the Sacred Heart Society at St. Gertrude's for many years. She was an active lecturer for her church and always made her religion and faith a priority. At Mela's request, a rosary will be held at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Mora on Monday, May 21 at 6 p.m. with a viewing at 5 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, Santa Fe on Tuesday, May 22 at 11 a.m. and interment will follow at the National Cemetery at 12:45PM. We would like to thank the caregivers at Sierra Vista for their loving and outstanding care during Mela's stay at the retirement community. She was treated with the utmost respect and always treated like their own family member.
