MARIANNE S. POTTS Marianne S. Potts died gracefully at her home in Santa Fe. NM on 12/13/2018. Family had recently helped her celebrate her 102nd birthday. Marianne was born in Philadelphia, Pa on 12/3/1916 to parents Louise Sangree Sharpless and Frederic C. Sharpless. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a certificate in Early Childhood Education in 1938. Her upbringing as a member of the Society of Friends was at the core of how she led her life: in peace, with optimism, concern for all and in service to others. At the age of 23 she married Asa Wing Potts. Together they directed an American Friend's Service Committee workcamp in Mexico to aid with reconstruction after a volcanic eruption (1941-1942) and then spent two years in Puerto Rico heading up a medical clinic to serve out Asa's conscientious objector status during WWII. Their focus then turned to raising their three children and running a medical practice. Their shared passions included fly-fishing in the Poconos, canoe trips in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and vacations in Beach Haven, NJ. Marianne is survived by her three daughters: Suzanne Potts, Marathon, Florida, Gwendolyn Potts, Monument, Colorado and Marianne Potts (Steve Diamond), Santa Fe, New Mexico; her grandsons Rick Wynkoop, PA and Will Potts-Gorham (Heidi Gorham) of St. Louis, MO and great grandchildren Jesse, Bronwyn, Ford and Hudson. The family is extremely grateful to the staff at Brookdale SF for providing her with a loving home for the past six years and are thankful to the staff of Compassus Hospice for their thoughtful and caring support. A memorial service is planned for August 2019 at Pocono Lake Preserve, PA.
