LEAH HOCHBERG-USATIN APRIL 26, 1922- AUGUST 9, 2014 Leah passed away, as she wished, in her own bed, thanks in large measure to the excellent care provided to her by the devoted staffs of Ponce De Leon Assisted Living and Del Corazon Hospice. Leah leaves behind her son, Stephen; her daughter-in-law, Jane; her granddaughter, Sophye (of Ft. Lauderdale, FL); and her brother, Samuel Kay (of Nogales, AZ). All those fortunate enough to have known Leah will greatly miss her cheerfulness, her kindness, and her insatiable curiosity. She was a truly beautiful person, inside and out. The motif which ran throughout Leah's life was caregiver. At age 18 she married Charles B. Hochberg, Esq., with whom she had her two sons, Stephen and the late Robert Boaz. She was a loving and supportive wife who unstintingly devoted herself to Charles in his long final illness. Widowed at 41, and to ensure the financial stability of her family, she took on three jobs, while continuing to be a nurturing mother. One of those jobs developed into a multi-decade employment relationship with Champion Paper (now International Paper) in Stamford, CT, from which she retired at an Executive level position in 1986. Leah then moved from Stamford to Bal Harbour,FL, where she devoted herself to numerous civic and charitable endeavors. It was while serving as a volunteer at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami that she met and after a whirlwind romance married a fellow volunteer, Abraham Usatin. Mt. Sinai Hospital was so pleased with this turn of events that it provided the ceremony and reception for them. In Abe's last illness, Leah again became the caregiver extraordinaire. In 2008, Leah moved to Santa Fe to be near Stephen and Jane. Funeral services and interment will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Santa Fe Memorial Gardens, 417 East Rodeo Road, Santa Fe ,NM. The family will sit Shiva [receive visits of condolence] at Stephen and Jane's home located at 1310 Thunder Ridge Road, Santa Fe, from 6PM to 9PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014; Wednesday, August 13, 2014; and Thursday, August 14, 2014. Donations in Leah's memory may be made to the Chabad Jewish Center of Santa Fe or to the St. Vincent's Hospital Foundation.
