JUDITH HALE 65, died in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on March 15, 2010, of advanced lung disease. Judy was born on February 28, 1945, in Mexico City. Her parents were Robert F. Hale and Rena M. Stonehouse Hale. She is survived by her brother, Ron Hale, of Santa Fe, and many close friends who cared for her deeply. Judy had lived in Santa Fe since July 2009 after living for many years in Elk, California. Judy was an accomplished abstract artist, producing vivid oil and acrylic paintings on canvas and paper that were ethereal and eminently spiritual. Shortly before her passing, Judy looked at the magnificent sky in Santa Fe and proclaimed, "That is where I live." In California, she would sit for hours absorbing the exquisitely changing sky. That depth of observation was manifested in her paintings. Judy was a graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA. She was a long-time painting teacher at the Mendocino Art Center, where she taught classes in Abstract Improvisation. She also studied with Helen Frankenthaler at the Santa Fe Art Institute. Judy's work has been shown widely throughout California and the U.S., and her work is in many private collections. She had been represented by galleries in Mendocino, San Francisco and Santa Fe. Some of her work can be seen at www.JudithHaleFineArt.com. Judy's spirit lives on in her remarkable body of work. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
