Antonio (Tony) Vigil Age 81, passed away in Pecos, NM on June 1, 2011 after a short illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Julianita Vigil; wife, Rita Vigil; daughter, Lucille Vigil and son-in-law, Fred Salas. Tony was born in Upper Colonias, New Mexico. He served as a PFC in the United States Army from July 7, 1954 to May 22, 1956. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 14 years, in law enforcement, fire fighter, and manned fire lookout towers, before retiring in August 1974. Tony was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Parish in Pecos and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his son, Fred Vigil of Pecos, NM; brother, Isidro Vigil and companion Irene of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Jane Salls and husband Jim of Pecos, NM, Polly Trego and husband Ray of Albuquerque, NM and Marie Roybal and husband Steve of Pecos, NM; sisters-in-law Adelina Vigil of Pecos, NM and Alice Ortega of Santa Fe, NM; granddaughters, Deirdre Espinoza and husband Larry of Epanola, NM, Fredalene Porter and husband Hamp of Grants, NM, Deven Gabaldon and husband Armando of Santa Fe, NM and grandson, Jared Vigil of Espanola, NM; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. A rosary will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pecos with a memorial mass to follow at 11 p.m. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the Pecos Sheriffs Posse Building in Pecos. The family would like to give special thanks to special friend Luisa Blea, niece Stephanie Vigil and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ortega for their care and kindness.
