Benita R. Varela Age 95, born to Antonio and Lucia Roybal in Pecos, New Mexico on April 3, 1916; surrendered her earthly life April 14, 20ll with family by her side. She was preceeded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Luis; brothers and sisters-in-law: Refugio (Teresa), Roberto, and Evaristo (Ramona); sisters and brothers-in-law: Valentina (Herman) and Monica (Anastacio), brothers-in-law/ sisters-in-law: Manuel (Delfina) Herculano (Carolina), Frank (Maria) Eufemio Varela; sisters-in-law/ brothers-in-law: Lucia Bowles (Andres) and Elosia Quintana (Jose). The last of her siblings, she is survived by sons: Tony (Jane), Jake; daughters: Alice (Tony), Julia (George), Anabelle (Lawrence) and Debra (Richard); adopted sister, Mary Brackins; sisters-in-law: Juanita Roybal and Magdalena Varela; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. Benita was fiercely independent, blunt, and loyal. She loved cooking, knitting, sharing recipes, traveling and her time with Pecos Seniors. She was a treasured role model for her perserverance, independence, courage, and resilency. Viewing and Rosary Friday, June 17th, at 6 p.m., St. Anthony's Catholic Church (Pecos). A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 18th, at 10 a.m., St. Anthony's Catholic Church (Pecos). Burial will follow at Pecos Cemetery.
