David Kirkwood Obituary

DAVID A. KIRKWOOD David A. Kirkwood, a ten year resident of Santa Fe, passed away Sunday at 4 a.m. in Albuquerque after several months of suffering. David used to be a great athlete and an artists' model for several years in Santa Fe. In 1964 he won a Silver Medal in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in Pentathlon, about which he also wrote a book. He also served in VietNam as an Air Force officer. After retiring from the military he became a stage and screen actor in Los Angeles. He will be missed by his wife Eliza M. Schmid; his four children: David, Robyn, Adam, Kerith; and many friends and artists.

As an artist, David was one of my favorite models - not just because he was so enthusiastic and thoughtful in his poses, but because between poses we would talk about an enormous range of topics. For me, his spirit lives on in the artwork he participated in. I was blessed to know him even at the superficial level of artist and model. I will miss him. Laura O

Eliza, I read your husband's obituary in today's New Mexican. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I'm still reeling from my husband's death 10 months ago. It's a very lonely journey trying to adapt to life without a much loved mate. If you need any support please do call me: 505-989-4114. Your husband was quite a handsome man. And you a beautiful woman -- together a beautiful couple. My heart goes out to you for your loss. Joyce Slosson (Pippin Contemporary).
