Ellen Gordon Pearlman Died on November 22, 2012, of breast cancer. Born in 1946, Ellen was deeply and eternally devoted to her family and to her friends. She was as insightful and empathetic a woman as any of us ever met. She will be remembered always by her husband, Dan Pearlman; her son, James Pearlman, his wife, Suzanne, and Ellen's beloved grandchildren, J.J. and Daniel Pearlman; by her daughter, Liz Pearlman Salganek and Liz's husband, Luke; by Ellen's brother-in-law, Steve Pearlman, his wife, Kathy, and their son, Jesse; Ellen's mother, Norma Gordon; her sister, Vicky Broadus and Vicky's children: Matt, Tory and Joe; her sister-in-law, Leslie Pearlman and Leslie's husband, David, and her children: Eva and Carrie; Ellen's dear aunt, Peggy Lazarus; and her cousins: John, Kathy, David, Liz and Ginny Lazarus and their families; and her cousins, Bill Elliott and Jane Morrison and their families. Ellen also had more extended family, living from Australia to Brazil, and traveled the world as a child with her parents. Ellen went to Oberlin College and then became a children's librarian in 1973, delighting and inspiring many hundreds of school children for ten years, with her beautiful library rooms and storytelling in Maryland and New Jersey. After moving to New Mexico in 1983, Ellen began a second career as a psychotherapist. She felt privileged to be allowed into the inner lives of her many many clients over the next twenty plus years, clients who she loved and tried to help reach their own goals in life. She designed and created a spectacularly beautiful home and garden in Santa Fe. But of all the roles she played in her life, the most rewarding, she always said, was that of being a mother and a grandmother. Ellen was, as she remarked a few days before her death, very sorry she had to go, but she knew she would live on in the hearts of those she had touched. A memorial will be held in January, 2013. Those who are not already in touch with the family by phone or email can send their email addresses, after December 17, 2012, to drpamburnham@gmail.com, and will then get notice by email of the time and place for the memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellen's honor may be made to the National Dance Institute of New Mexico, at www.ndi-nm.org.
