Lawrence P. Montoya passed away after a short illness surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born and raised in Santa Fe New Mexico.
He is the loving son of the late Joe E. and Filia Montoya. He is also preceded in death by his niece, Judy Montoya.
He is survived by his son Nicholas Montoya and fiancée Amanda Garcia, brothers and sisters Gilbert Montoya Sr. and wife Berna, Veronica Quintana and husband Larry, Leroy Montoya and fiancée Fran Brandquist, Jimmy Montoya and wife Julie, Rose Rodriguez and husband Ruben Sr., Mike Montoya and fiancée Dolores Billy, fiancée Phyllis Gallegos, god daughter Denisha Ojeda, best friend Joe Valdez, many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He began working at a young age as a street seller for the Santa Fe New Mexican and continued his employment there for many years. Lawrence also, worked at the Motor Vehicle Division for the State of New Mexico and most recent for the County of Santa Fe in the Public Works Projects and Facilities Division.
He spent most of his summers playing softball and umpiring for the City of Santa Fe Softball League. He attended tournaments in Chama and surrounding areas. Lawrence enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, family gatherings and vacations. He loved dancing especially to country western music.
Lawrence will be remembered for his love of life and his dedication to his family and the Washington Redskins.
A Rosary will take place on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rosario Chapel located at 540 Rosario, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
A celebration Mass of Christian burial to take place on December 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne Church located at 505 Alicia St Santa Fe New Mexico, internment to follow at the Rosario Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Gilbert Montoya Sr., Leroy Montoya, Jimmy Montoya, Mike Montoya, Larry Quintana, Ruben Rodriguez and Joe Valdez.
Reception to follow the internment at Fraternal Order of Police located on Airport Road.
