Success is to be measured not so much by the
position that one has reached in life as by the
obstacles which he has overcome!
You brought so many success in your Lifetime... ~RIP~

My sympathies to your family on the loss of your patriarch and my beloved Coach. Sometimes God puts someone in your life to change your direction, and to guide you down the right path. Coach was that person to me. I will forever hear "FLEA!" and his whistle when I start to veer from the path.

May God Bless you all! I know his X-Country and Track girls loved him so much. He will be deeply missed....

Dear Alire Family,
Coach Alire was my teacher and coach at Mid High School, and I've not forgotten him over the past 50 years. He has remained a permanent guide post in my life, especially in issues related to ethics. He stood for clear thinking, clear communication, and positive result, without exception. Teachers like Mr. Alire, represent the true meaning of education, giving positive examples of action, and good behavior.
His emulation has lasted me all of my work life, and this is a belated thank you to him, too late, but an acknowledgement, none the less.

Coach
Break of dawn, cold bus, blankets and pillows.
Where to? Penasco, Alamosa, Gallup...
No matter, we're ready. Quiet, pensive, there.
Check the course, then the talk.
Coach never took for granted past winning.
Lord's Prayer, touching hands.
We're more than a team, we're family.
How does it happen to be so close, win so often?
Grace, Faith, and Coach.
No matter what life brought since, or is yet to be,
Forever, we are blessed.
Thank you Coach.

Dear Alire family, My deepest sympathies. Coach meant so much to me, Margie, and my family. May he rest in peace. Much love, Josie Wurst and the Wurst family

To the Alire family, so very sorry to hear of Coach's passing.
Thank you for sharing your father with so many of us. He had a tremendous positive impact on so many lives. He taught us that hard work and commitment helps one to achieve their goals. He taught us that love isn't always hugs and kisses. He taught us how to be proud of who we were and where we were from. I am so privileged to have had Coach Alire as a coach and mentor in my life. He led me down a road to success in running that spilled over to real life. I credit him with helping me find my passion in life and pointing me in the right direction to continue my running as well as get an education. He taught me what the word team really means. I loved your dad for what he did for me. He is truly a New Mexico legend and always will be. My prayers and thoughts are with you all

My Dad, Arthur Aragon, was friends with Mr. Alire and served in the Korean War together. John is on the right hand side. They died 6 days apart! RIP

During the years where a teenager is developing into a young adult there are certain people that enter our lives such as Coach Alire. In addition to helping me develop into t blessed athlete, Coach taught me life lessons that I carry with me even today. Besides my own Parents, Coash was like my Father for along time! Dave, Kathy & Steve, we have all been blessed to have such a great person in our lives. Please take comfort that your Dad is doing incredibly well now in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. Yes, I have that hurt inside my chest but we now need to gravitate toward each other in support and in celebration that your Dad is now doing so much better than the rest of us. COACH, YOU MY NOT BE AMUNG US ANY LONGER BUT YOU LIVE ON IN THE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE YOU HAVE IMPACTED- LIKE ME! Gino Fulgenzi

Coach, I was really saddened to hear about your passing. You taught me more than just sports. You helped guide me through life. Thank you for being tough on me when I was slacking off, for motivating me to always do my best, and for teaching me life lessons on and off the track. You touched a lot of people and I am glad I was one of them. Thank you.

Coach,
You taught me so much about myself; lessons I carry with me to this day and will pass to my own kids. I am stronger, braver and smarter thanks to your guidance. Though nearly 30 years have passed since we met, I still respond to a whistle I hear in the distance and look over my shoulder expecting to see you there. Thanks for everything, Coach, and see you on the other side. ❤

Dear Alire Family,
My deceased husband, Ramon, always spoke so admirably about John Alire. They coached together many years ago. Ramon recalled every game, every practice, every player when he and John had great football teams at SF High. Those were the days when coaches were honorable and inspiring men!! May John's soul rest in peace! Blessings to John's family, Sincerely, Exilda Martinez

He was the best coach! He will be greatly missed. I am horned that he coached me for all my high school years. He took time my senior year to coach me after school, when I was not allowed to run my senior year, as I already lettered 4 years. You were an amazing man. Thank you for great memories.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Please know that he was such a positive influence on me as a person, teacher, and coach. Now when I talk to my grandson of the positive impact and impression that a coach and a athlete has on a community, his is the first name I mention. Thank you for sharing him with all the former students at SFHS. Mike Jacques
