Dominga Rico Obituary
July 15, 1913 - December 5, 2010
Dominga Rico was born in Kyle, TX. She spent her early years there. In 1941, she moved to Guadalupe, CA and lived there for 27 years. In 1968, she moved to San Diego, CA and lived there for 36 years. Later, in 2004, she moved to Bakersfield, CA and lived there for six years and has now moved on to be with the Lord. The death of her husband, followed by a stroke, necessitated her relocation to Bakersfield to live; first with her family and later at Parkview Julian Convalescent Hospital where she was lovingly cared for by many care givers and nurses.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Rico; sisters: Manuela Mejia Regalado and Julia Mejia Garcia; brothers, Thomas and Florentino Mejia; grandson, Pedro Romero and great-grandson, Gabriel. Dominga is survived by her children: Francis Quiroga, Susie Ogas (Roberto), Pedro Castillo Jr. (Alicia), Pauline Castillo, Nancy Castillo, Linda Cortes (Jose), and Mary Calzada; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dominga was a wonderful mother, always there when we needed her. She worked all the time, was a great cook, she was known for her (gorditas) flour tortillas, and tamales. Mother had a big heart, always helped people in need, always fed the hungry. She loved to go to church and read her Bible every day. She loved to sing, walk, garden and loved to have gathering with all her children and friends. Her family was with her when she quietly passed away at home at the age of 97. She was a tireless mother who loved her family and she will be sorely missed.
We love you Mom! We know you are at peace with the Lord and watch over us from the heavens above.
We are respecting her wishes by having a cremation and a celebration of life gathering with family and friends. Come join us, bring pictures, stories and joy in our hearts. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. with services beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Southport Christian Center (142 East 16th Street) National City, CA 91950 on Monday, December 13, 2010. Services are under the direction of Basham Funeral Care 661-873-8200.
