Gloria Johnson Obituary

Gloria L. Johnson
Gloria L. Johnson passed away in Santa Maria on November 19, 2010 after an extended illness, but her life is not defined by her long disability but by her abilities before a rare disease destroyed her capacity to communicate.
She was born Gloria Lorraine Elliott in Baltimore, Maryland on March 6, 1929 to Flora and Isaac Elliott. They lived in a three-story house in Brooklyn, a suburb of Baltimore.
She attended high school in South Baltimore and grew up in a musical family; her mother played piano and her father played a saw using a bow, while Gloria learned to play the electric Hawaiian guitar. She sang in church choirs for over 40 years, and was often featured as a soloist.
Her achievements had long been cast by her love of music and a sensitivity to the human condition as expressed in her artwork, china painting, craftwork, poetry and writings. She was ever grateful for the blessings of life and was always aware that all blessings come from the Lord. Her commitment to Christ at the age of thirteen helped to establish the foundation for the hope and joy she experienced in the years to follow. Her faith not only provided stability for the challenges she would face but also touched the lives of many.
Gloria leaves behind a loving husband, Alvin, of sixty-one years of marriage, a son Charles (Laurie), a daughter Kathy (David), and a granddaughter, Perry.
In death she was surrounded by her husband and the medical staff at Country Oaks Care Center where she has received professional loving care for the past seven years.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 11:00am at the Church of the Nazarene.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory and Memory Gardens.
