Kate Smith Obituary

Kate Blasingame Smith
Kate Blasingame Smith passed away peacefully on September 21, just short of her 94th birthday. She was the fourth child of Alfred Hardy Blasingame and Harriet Cole Blasingame. The Blasingames and the Coles were among the early settlers in the San Joaquin Valley. Kate graduated from Clovis High School and Fresno State. In the 30's she moved to Santa Maria and taught school for a year. She then wed Santa Maria attorney Marion Smith and they became parents of four children.
During her life Kate was active in he Presbyterian Church, loved to refinish antiques, was a great cook, kept a lovely home, and took many art classes at Allan Hancock College. Upon Marion's retirement the couple traveled extensively and continued to enjoy a wide circle of friends.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Superior Court Judge Marion Smith in 2007 and her oldest daughter, Harriet Holman in 1999.
Surviving are her children, Michael Smith, Janey McCarrel, and Mary Kit McIntosh, grandchildren Katie Scherpbier, Matt Copeland, Sean and Kevin Smith, Isaac and Joe Scott, Paul and Eli McCarrel, Jordan and Alexandra Zebor, and Abigail Zebor-Stark. She also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren, one nephew, Phil Smith, and nieces Joey Wilson and Delores Barcroft.
The family requested that gifts honoring Kate Smith's life be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 200 West Cook, Santa Maria.
