Lorenzo Fuentes Obituary

Lorenzo Fuentes, Sr.
Lorenzo Fuentes Sr., a longtime Santa Maria resident passed away December 2nd in Santa Maria. Lorenzo was born to Santos and Apolinar Fuentes on August 30, 1937 in El Paso, Texas. Upon moving to Santa Maria he attended local schools and graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1957. Lorenzo married Consuela Mojarra in 1960 and raised three children.
He was recognized for his outstanding talent as a first baseman playing city league baseball in it's heyday from the 50's and 60's. He was known to be the best first baseman on the central coast. Lorenzo was also well known throughout the community as the patron of his well established business, Sierra Roofing. Lorenzo was a tremendously dedicated hard worker, never giving up and enjoyed working until the last day of his life.
He also dedicated his time to his grandchildren being the best grandfather anyone could ask for. He was very attentive with his granddaughter's softball activities and supportive through their youthful careers, as well as attending as many games as possible for his grandson's soccer and basketball. Anyone who was acquainted with Lorenzo knew he cherished and loved his grandchildren. His love for them was unconditional as he gazed upon them in that loving moment.
He is survived by his sons: Lorenzo Fuentes, Jr. and Thomas Fuentes; daughter, Lisa Dominguez; brothers: Angel "Tony" De La Cruz and Enrique "Henry" De La Cruz; sisters: Patricia De La Cruz and Maria Louisa "Mary Lou" Limon; daughter-in-law, Liz Fuentes and son-in-law, Steve Dominguez; grandchildren: Jennifer "Jenny Penny" Fuentes, Elise Marie "Mona" Fuentes, Nicolas "Nikelodeon" Dominguez and Alec "The Troublemaker" Dominguez and one great-grandchild, Danikah Bazan. He also leaves behind his beloved pet and best friend, his boxer, "Matt the Brat" Fuentes. Lorenzo was preceded in death by his parents and brother Santiago "Jim" Fuentes.
He will be missed by many,  held forever in our hearts and memories, now treasures that will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 9th from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Orcutt Chapel, 204 Patterson Road. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M. Graveside funeral services will be at the Santa Maria Cemetery Friday, December 10th at 11:00 A.M.

Lorenzo was my classmate in Guadalupe grammar school and Santa Maria High! We played Basketball together in a City League and won the championship. I’ll never forget him.

My deepest condolences to the Fuentes family. Lorenzo and I playfully rough housed with each other in Guadalupe elementary school, and were classmates in the same graduating class at Santa Maria High. That year we formed a City League Basketball league and walked away with the championship. He was quite guy, and will definitely be missed.
