Mireille Azar Obituary

Mireille Zakhour Azar
Mireille Zakhour Azar, 52, of Santa Maria, California, lost her battle to breast cancer on October 26, 2010. She passed away at home, surrounded by her family and close friends.
Born October 30, 1957 in Beirut, Lebanon, Mireille came to Santa Barbara, California as a newlywed.  With her husband and children, she moved to Santa Maria in 1988; she considered Santa Maria her home for the last 23 years.
Mireille enjoyed the company of her family, often playing board games on family nights in. She loved reading, and enjoyed long walks with friends. Mireille was a wonderful cook, and could often be found preparing meals and planning parties, taking pleasure in knowing others were enjoying her work. Mireille was active in the community, taking part in church and scouting.
Mireille is survived by Elie Azar, her husband of 29 years; her daughters, Pamela and Joelle; and her son, Joey, and his wife, Nicole. She is also survived by her mother Nelly Zakhour, and her siblings, Roger Zakhour, Rita Zakhour Azar, Mirna Zakhour Azar, and Joumana Zakhour, and their families, all of Beirut, Lebanon. She is also survived by the Azar families of Lebanon, and Virginia, as well as the Kaloustian family of Lebanon, the De La Tribouille and the Madit families of France, as well as the Zogorean and Horn families, of Santa Maria, and family and friends in the United States, France, and Lebanon.
A service will be held on Friday October 29, 2010, at 5:30 pm, at Saint Louis de Montfort Church in Orcutt. In lieu of flower, the family is requesting donations be made in Mireille's honor to the Cancer Centers of Santa Barbara at www.ccsb.org.

I met Mireille 11 years ago in a word processing class at Allan Hancock College. Our instructor, Jody Derry, was pregnant at the time and we threw her a baby shower....what fun we had!...and Mireille was a big part of that fun. Jody is the one who just told me today of Mireille's passing. When I first met Mireille, she immediately reminded me of my dear friend Leila, who was born in Syria. Aside from the physical resemblance, their personalities were also alike in many ways--they could have been sisters! They both shared a love of family, friends, cooking, and life in general. I lost touch with Mireille after our classes ended, but would see her from time to time (we love Target!) and always enjoyed our impromptu chats. I was not aware of her cancer, but when I last saw her over the summer, she looked good and was her usual upbeat, happy self. My sincere condolences to you, her grieving family--I can only imagine the great loss you must feel, but hopefully the wonderful memories she helped create will provide some measure of comfort to you, as will the prayers and support being sent your way by both friends and strangers such as myself.

I met Mireille for the first time at R.I.C.A in Anahiem in March. She was the type of person you felt you had known all your life. She spoke freely of her illness & was very comforting to me knowing I had lost my husband to cancer just the year before. I was invited to join the group from St. Louis de Monfort & was so happy I went & very blessed to have known Mireille just that short time.

I knew Mireille very casually through church & Dunlap School. She was a lovely, gracious woman and I am deeply saddened for her family.

Mireille darling, you are terribly missed. You were always a light of inspiration and hope with a positive outlook on every aspect of life. Your loving spirit will live on in my heart forever and I am honored to have called you my friend. God bless the classiest woman in the sexiest shoes I've ever met! Love, Angela
