Norma Spinner Obituary

Norma Collette (Kalland) Spinner
Norma Collette (Kalland) Spinner of Lometa, TX passed away January 17, 2010 in Temple, TX. Norma was born June 11, 1969 in Santa Maria, the daughter of Norman (Kal) Kalland and Janet (Adam) Kalland. Growing up in the Buckhorn Canyon, she loved to ride horseback, play in the creek, and pan for gold with her sister. She played volleyball and ran cross country while attending St. Louis de Montfort School. She was active in 4-H and FFA showing pigs and she developed a lifelong love of photography. She graduated from Righetti High School in 1987. Norma worked at various jobs throughout her life including sales person and waitress; however, few knew of her work as a private investigator, bail bondsman and paralegal. After moving to Texas, she added radio personality to her resume, earning the nickname of "Chicken Lady" due to an incident at the local youth stock show. Norma was most recently the owner of The Branding Iron Café in Lometa, TX. Wherever she lived, she supported community events, belonging to the Ridgecrest Rodeo Association while living in Ridgecrest, CA and volunteering at the annual Rattlesnake Roundup in Lometa. She loved playing Bunco with the Bunco Babes whenever her health would allow, and she particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing with her long time boyfriend, Donnie Bell.
Survivors include her mother of Lampasas, TX; daughters Valerie Edwards and Cody Cummins of Lampasas, Amy Smith and Steven of Santa Maria, and Christine Skaggs and Andrew of Apple Valley; sisters Erica Lewis and Spicer of Abilene, TX, Goodi Sanders and Johnny of Salt Flat, TX, Hazel Kalland of Lamar, CO, and Phyllis Duval and Buck of Helena, MT; aunts Mary Fumia and Kathy Shiffrar and George of Santa Maria; Brent Spinner of Apple Valley, CA; four grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She took great pride in being Yaya to her grandchildren and will be remembered for her indomitable spirit and ever present smile. Though she fought illness for many years, she never complained or felt sorry for herself. She squeezed all the joy she could out of life and enjoyed every moment she had with her family and friends.
Services will be held March 13, 2010 at San Ramon Chapel, Sisquoc with burial in the adjacent cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation at 9221 Ward Pkwy, Suite 400, Kansas City, MO 64114, the San Ramon Chapel Preservation Committee or a charity of choice.

Amy and family, your mom was one in a million. I went through IHOP training with her, back when it was like marine corp boot camp... we wanted to run out screaming, but we didn't. Then, Norma left...fast forward 15yrs and there she was, it was like yesterday, then she brought you Amy to work with us, it was great...Norma left, but she will always be remembered for the bright shining star and bubbly personality she was... I will always remember her telling me....Michelle we can't run out of IHOP and quit...then they will win

Norma and I were great friends since we were in high school. We were very close and we always said we were each others other half.
I will miss her greatly. She could brighten a room when she smiled.
We tried to visit eachother as often as possible and would surprise each other by just showing up at each others place whenever the opportunity would arise. I will truely miss my Best Friend.

Always
