Rex Bewley Obituary

Rex Bewley
1941-2010
Rex Bewley 69 passed away on Thursday, September 16th surrounded by his family. He was born May 14, 1941 in Lompoc, Ca. He lived in Guadalupe up until High School when the family moved to Santa Maria. Rex graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1959. After graduation, he traveled to Oregon to work in the family lumber mill. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1961. In December of 1962 he married the love of his life, Lorraine. While serving in the Marines, they made their home in Oceanside. After serving four years in the Marines, Rex started his 38 year career as a Finance Manager. In 1980 he moved back to Santa Maria with his wife and three daughters. Rex was able to retire in 2002 to spend time with his family whom he loved very much.
After his retirement, cooking became one of his favorite hobbies. He loved having family get togethers, barbeques, playing cards, dominos, bingo and spending time outside with his dogs. Some of his traditions included making pumpkin stew every Halloween and baking Christmas cookies with his grand-daughters. He has brought us much joy and love and we will forever be thankful for the fond memories of him that will live on in our hearts.
Rex leaves behind his loving wife of almost 48 years Lorraine; his daughters Leah Simpkins and fiance Dave Trombetta of Monterey, Tina Chapman and son-in-law Mike of Santa Maria and Catherine Bewley of Los Angeles; his mother Marjorie Bewley of Santa Maria; sister Vickie Beaver and husband Don of Santa Maria; grand-daughters Taryn and Tori Chapman; nephews Jonnie Fittro and Sean Beaver; niece Tracee Fittro; and aunts, uncles, many cousins and his well loved dog Miranda.
He was preceded in death by his father Bob Bewley in 1978, his brother Robert Stanley in 1943 and his sister Darline Fittro January 2010.
In honor of his wishes, there will be no services. Donations can be made in memory of Rex to The Jacqualyn Palchak Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 1614, Pismo Beach, CA 93448, or The Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter, 548 W. Foster Rd., Santa Maria, CA 93455.

Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am a diamond glint on snow
I am the sunlight on unripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awake in the morning hush
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there
I did not die.

Sad to hear the news. I knew Rex all my life and we went all through school together in Guad and SMUHS (class of '59). He will be missed.

Mrs. Bewley and Family,
I am very sorry to hear of Rex's passing. I always enjoyed talking to Rex as he was always full of life and always had something funny to say. The first time I met Rex he tried to pull the "I bet you i can do between 1 and 100 push-ups in under 60 seconds". He was a nice guy and I would always wave to him when I passed the house. Tina I have you and your family in my prayers. God bless your dad.
