Roy Duran Obituary

Published by Santa Maria Times on Nov. 3, 2010.
Roy Duran Sr.
Roy Duran Sr. 48, also known as "Big Roy", went to be with our Lord and Savior unexpectedly on October 28, 2010. Roy was born on November 28, 1961 to Ernesto and Teresa Duran in Fresno, California.
Roy was the fifth child of nine brothers and sisters. Roy was the youngest son. Roy moved to Santa Maria when he was young, where he grew up playing with his siblings and cousins. As a young boy, Roy went to Miller and Adam Elementary schools and El Camino Junior High. Roy also attended Santa Maria High School. Before Roy was medically disabled he was a tradesman, where he worked alongside his best friend, his brother Rudy. In Roy's retired life, he tinkered with computers and if he got stuck he would call his brother Ernest, "The Wizard", to help him out. He loved to help bar-b-que with is big brother Mike. Roy enjoyed relaxing by his kio pond telling stories to his nieces and nephews about his childhood adventures. Roy was an all around awesome man. He was very generous and caring. Roy had a heart of gold, the type of man who would take the shirt off his back or the shoes off his feet if you needed it. He was a jokester, whenever he answered the phone and you said his name he would reply "That's my name don't wear it out." Roy loved and cared deeply for his family, he made everyone feel special. Roy also had a loyal companion, George G. Duran, his dog, whom he loved very much. Roy was a good listener. Family and friends would often confide in Roy because he gave wise advice and would never break his word. Roy's smile was absolutely beautiful. He could light up a room with his teddy bear personality. He loved his mom's cooking; he was always very appreciative and would let her know by saying, "Ma, you out done yourself again."
Roy was a loving father to his two favorite children Roy Duran Jr. and Julianna Duran. In the words of his son, "My dad is my best friend", Roy would never pass up an opportunity to spend time with him, even if it was just to sit in the garage watching cars pass by. Roy was rarely seen without his daughter, "Boo-Boo", as father and daughter they shared an unbreakable bond. Roy had four favorite grandchildren which he loved to share hugs and kisses with.
He is survived by his beloved family: children, Roy Duran Jr. and Julianna Duran; his parents, Ernesto and Teresa Duran; his grandchildren, Roy Anthony Duran, Aaliyah Angelique Duran, Monique Love Duran, and Destiny Miranda Duran; "favorite" brothers and "mijas"/sisters, Mike and Helen Duran (Nipomo, CA), Patricia Duran (Santa Maria), Ernest and Rosary Duran (Guadalupe, CA), Rudy and Evelyn Duran (Santa Maria, CA), Margie Duran (Bakersfield, CA), Linda and Raul Torres (Tanglewood, CA), Rosie and Melvin Hicks (Bakersfield, CA), Tina and Daniel Rios (Santa Maria, CA). He is also survived by ten nephews, fifteen nieces, thirteen great-nephews, and fifteen great-nieces. Roy was very proud of his nephew, U.S. Marine, Lance Corporal Ruben Duran, who is currently stationed in North Carolina.
A rosary for Roy will be held on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 6:00pm at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 9:00am at Pacific Christian Center, graveside service will follow at Santa Maria Cemetery.
Roy will be truly missed until our chain is linked again. We love you, Roy. As Roy would say, "Al rato gato".

To the Duran Family-
You are all in our prayers. We were so surpirsed to hear of Roy's passing. I hope you will find comfort knowing that he is with God in a much happier place. For God to have called him home so soon, He must have a very important job for Roy to do. I'm sure it's keeping a watchful eye on the Duran family. May God bless you all.

To the Duran Family: Our sincere condolences to you all..Roy was a special part of the Martinez Family and we will never forget his smile and being there for us. The morning of his passing, my daughter Jennifer saw him and he hugged her and said "Hi Mija" how are you doing? He was always so caring and loving..Our prayers are with the family cuz I know missing him is the hardest part of losing someone you love..but one thing I do know is that Roy is celebrating in heaven and walking the streets of gold, no more tears, pain or broken heart. To his children, know that God will walk you through this place, though it's not easy, your daddy is watching over you.. God Bless you All! Love Rick and Debbie Martinez and family.

For all the Durans, From your cousin Helen Reyes Loredo & family. I-we know your pain , I feel your sadness all to well that you all are feeling right now especially My Tia, For a mother'love of a child cannot be compard, We as mother's feel the pain so different,we watched them grow we felt all their joys and their pains as they grew up to be grown men, but even when they become adults we still see them as our child. My son's know the pain of losing a brother all to well and unfortunitly it will never go away. You will never forget him he will always be a big part of your heart. You will see things that remind you of him, you will remember his jokes, his smiles, his laugh, his hugs, you will see things that remind you of him. every place you go you will see someone that walks like him or looks like him and you keep staring thinking it's him and the pain starts all over again. In time this will slowly go away but you know he is always going to be with you in your hearts, and in heaven watching looking down over you. As they say time will heals our broken hearts and our tears may fade away. In my heart I know Roy is happy in Heaven with all our loved one's who have gone before us. One day I will see my son and my cousin Roy and we will all be together again in Heaven God willing. Love all of you Helen and Family.

I met Roy on our first day of school at El Camino Junior High (he looked exactly like his picture here). Roy walked in late, real cool with a big smile during roll call and said, "That's my name don't wear it out." Years past and I never saw Roy again. Now I realize that Roy's son and mine are very close friends and that Roy's father Ernesto, attends our church. I'm aware that the Duran family has been going through some very difficult times. My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to you and your loved ones. I pray that you find strength, peace and seek refuge in Christ Jesus. Our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Romas 8:18

LORETTA AKA LORIMAY

November 3, 2010

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My brother is one of the best men I have ever met. It saddens me that I will grow old and I won't have him here with me. He has helped me so much these last few years, by just being a good listener and all around great big brother. We have cried together, been angry together, happy together and have laughed a lot together. I will always remember how when we would walk in the door and he would say," Ma, the rivers are here". I love you Roy. I can't wait till the day I see your beautiful smile in heaven. Love your favorite sister, Tina <3
