BALLSTON SPA >> Michael J. Barno, 50, of Ballston Spa passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013.
Born in Passaic, N.J., on September 10, 1963, he was the son of the late Donald and Lorretta Barno. He was a 1985 graduate of Stephens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., and earned a degree in chemical engineering.
Mike was an engineer for Knolls Atomic Power Lab and worked for General Electric at the main plant in Schenectady. He held two patents for General Electric.
He enjoyed car racing and liked to watch races at Watkins Glen and followed formula one racing. Mike had a knack for fixing things and kept the family cars running well over 300,000 miles. He always said, "Life is cheap when you're smart."
He loved New Jersey and vacationing in Cape May. He enjoyed watching old, bad movies and made a great pot of soup.
Mike liked discovering remote restaurants and dives and brought his family along to try them out.
He was a loving husband, father, brother and son.
Mike is survived by his wife, Patricia Barno; his children, Elizabeth Barno of Boston, Mass., Michael Barno, Katherine Barno, Emily Barno and James Barno, all of Ballston Spa; brother, Donald Barno and his wife, Heather, of Wayne, N.J.; father-in-law, Joseph Conlon of Yonkers; and his extended family and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, at Christ Episcopal Church on West High Street in Ballston Spa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 31, at the church.
