Raphael S. Buhr Obituary
Raphael S. Buhr SARATOGA SPRINGS - Raphael S. Buhr passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Loved by friends and family, Ray was a devoted family man, a member of St. Clements’ Roman Catholic Church, an avid gardener and animal lover. Born and raised in Juneau Wisconsin, Ray was the son of Martin Buhr and Edith Bernhagen. Ray had three brothers Joseph, LaVern, Lawrence and a sister Henrietta. An outstanding athlete, Ray received a football scholarship to St. Norbert’s College. He later attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, on a ROTC scholarship where he received his BS in Accounting. He later served as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army, stationed at Camp Irwin, CA. He married the former Mary Frances Hamilton of Schenectady, NY on May 23, 1959 and had 3 children; Kelley Buhr Trott, Kathleen Buhr Kazanjian and Stephen Buhr. Ray worked for the General Electric Company for 37 years, retiring as Manager, Information Systems for GE Fanuc in Charlottesville, VA. An active member of the community, Ray’s volunteer activities included Meals on Wheels, tax assistance via the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, and he served as a member of the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association. Ray touched many people’s lives with his quick wit and his kind heart, and was regarded by all as a role model and an exceptional individual. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his wife, children, sons in law Andrew Trott and David Kazanjian, and his brother Lawrence Buhr (Arliss) of Juneau, Wisconsin, Ray is survived by his four grandchildren; Kathleen Trott, Courtney Trott, Nicholas Kazanjian, Kyle Marie Kazanjian, and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christiasn burial which will be celebrated Monday morning at 11:00 at St. Clement’s Church in Saratoga springs. Calling hours will be Sunday from afternoon from 3:00 until 6:00 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union St., Schenectady. Burial will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, 6010 County Farm Rd., Ballston Spa, 12020.
