David Louis "Dave" Sheeran Obituary
ASHUELOT N.H. - David ""Dave"" Louis Sheeran, 68, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2102, in Watkins Glen, N.Y., from an apparent heart attack.
Dave was born April 11, 1944, to James Joseph and Marjorie Owen Sheeran in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He grew up at 245 Maple Ave. with his parents, brother ""Bill,"" sister Colleen and his maternal grandparents.
Dave graduated from Saratoga High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam, after which he worked at General Electric. He apprenticed with Local 166 IBEW (later merged into Local 236), becoming a journeyman electrician, later adding welding and fiber optics skills to his credentials. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he worked as a field supervisor with Interface Electric Inc.
Dave enjoyed going to auto races and hiking with his children, Leigh, Andy and Brandy.
As Scoutmaster of Schuylerville, N.Y., Boy Scout Troop 13, Mr. Sheeran shared his love for outdoor adventures. He climbed his first Adirondack high peak, Giant, in 1990 and became No. 4243 in the Adirondack 46ers with his climb of Cliff in 1997. He earned a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation license for guiding, camping and hiking. He was a life member of VFW Post 420.
Dave was a racing enthusiast. He was a member of Caron Formula Racing (1970s), Sports Car Club of America and Bill Fenton Motor Sports Team, and he was with Team Fenton in Watkins Glen when he passed.
In retirement, Dave ""went to work"" in his woodshop, hiked, fished and loved attending auto races. He often commented on the pleasure he found quietly sitting and observing nature. Dave enjoyed helping family and friends, and if something needed fixing, ""Grandpa fixed it."" He added reading to his retirement pastimes and loved murder mysteries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marjorie Sheeran; and his grandparents, William and Flossy Roods Owen and James and Margaret Sheeran.
Dave is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jane Sheeran of Ashuelot, N.H.; ex-wife Donnah Ballard of Puyallup, Wash.; children John D. Sheeran of Las Vegas, Leigh K. Osterhage of Carmichael, Calif., Andrew O. Sheeran of Schuylerville and Brandy J. Speno of Brattleboro, Vt.; grandchildren Kyle J. Osterhage, Aliza J. Speno and Kayli M. Speno; siblings William Sheeran of Pittsford, N.Y., and Colleen Kingery of Saratoga Springs; and nieces and nephews.
Burial with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 200 Duell Road in Schuylerville, followed at 11 a.m. by a Celebration of Life and brunch at the VFW Post 420, 190 Excelsior Ave., Saratoga Springs.
Memorial donations may be made to Adirondack 46ers Inc., P.O. Box 180, Cadyville, NY 12918; to the food pantry in Schuylerville; or to the food pantry in Winchester, N.H.
Arrangements are under the direction of William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, (518) 584-5373.
