Ellen Butler Obituary
PORT ST. LUCIE- Ellen Butler, formerly of Saratoga Springs passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, at her residence in Florida with her loving family by her side.
She was 77.
Born Jan. 8, 1935, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Grace Fogarty.
After raising eight children, Ellen worked for Saratoga County Mental Health at Friendship House on Church Street in Saratoga Springs, retiring in 1987. She was also very active in the Saratoga Hospital Guild, serving as president for one term.
During her retirement, Ellen served on many committees and participated with the Homeowners Association at the park in Florida where she resided.
Ellen loved walking on the beach collecting seashells and enjoyed doing various types of puzzles, crocheting, rug hooking and knitting.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Topping.
Survivors include her husband, John A. ""Ted"" Butler; eight children, Denis (Joyce Heede) Butler, Daniel Butler, Debra Topping, Dawn (Walter) Cassidy, Donna (Rick) Brayman, David (Peppy) Butler, Deidre (Ben) Eberle and Dean (LeAnn) Butler; her brother, Bill (Sue) Fogarty; as well as 20 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2012, at William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 584-5373.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Ave., by the Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia.
Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 200 Duell Road in Schuylerville.
Memorials may be made in her name to Saratoga Central Catholic High School, 247 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
