GALWAY - Janet M. Johnson, 69, died unexpectedly but peacefully Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, in the house she designed and enjoyed for two decades.

She was born Jan. 18, 1943, in Oshkosh, Wis., a daughter of the late Rosalie (Miller) and William Suckow.
First in her family to graduate from college, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the University of Wisconsin and then later earned a master's degree in American studies from Union College.
She moved to Schenectady, N.Y., in 1968 with her husband and began teaching English for Schenectady City School District until her retirement in 1998. Two of the highlights of her career were when she was a human relations consultant for NYSUT and the coordinator for Cooperative Learning in her school district.
While retired, for several years she was a board member of the Galway Public Library.
Jan was dedicated to the education and personal growth and development of others.
She enjoyed watching sports, gardening, reading and golfing.
Jan is survived by her two daughters, Stephanie Johnson (Franklin Nichols) of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and Kimberly Lewis (Robert) of Burnt Hills; her grandchildren, Jenna Nichols and Nicholas Johnson; her dog, Darci; and her two sisters, Mary Hejdak (Kenneth) and Gloria Miller, both of Oshkosh, Wis.
There will be no calling hours.
There will be a gathering in memory of Jan from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 9, 2012, at her home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, P.O. Box 550, Wellfleet, MA 02667; or to a preferred charity.
