Joan C. McCarty (nee Curran) passed away Feb. 14, 2014.
Joan was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Yonkers, N.Y., to William J. Curran and Lillian Lemoine Curran. She grew up in Verplanck, N.Y., and lived in Montrose, N.Y., before moving to Barnegat Light, N.J., in 1988. Joan graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, N.Y., and from the Wood School of Business in New York City.
She married John H. McCarty in 1957. She was employed for many years at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Montrose, N.Y.
Some of her greatest joys after retiring with her husband and moving to Long Beach Island were her many dear friends, being a member of the Long Beach Island Women's Club and attending church and volunteering for St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen of Barnegat Light, N.J.; her son, John, and his wife, Jacqueline; beloved grandson, Josh, and his wife, Nikki, and their son, Sean (the light of all of our lives) who all reside in Beacon, N.Y. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen Curran, and her seven nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, John H. McCarty, in 2013 and her loving brother, Bill, in 2003.
Family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ, to be followed at noon by a funeral Mass.
Burial will be at a private ceremony at a later date in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
