John Lyng Obituary
John C. ”Dee” Lyng Sr. CORINTH - John C. ”Dee” Lyng Sr., 75, of Hack Road, passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family following a long illness. Born on Nov. 1, 1941 in Corinth, he was the son of the late Chauncey and Shirley (Washburn) Lyng. John graduated from Corinth High School in 1961 and attended Adirondack Community College in 1988. He married his high school sweetheart Joyce A. Fuller on July 1, 1962 in Saratoga Springs and the couple has resided on Hack Road for over 50 years. John was first employed at the International Paper Co. in Corinth for 17 years as a paper maker and then worked at Wilton Developmental Center, first at Mt. McGregor and then on Ballard Road for several years. He then worked in several group homes and retired from the Day Hab program in Corinth following 37 years of service. He was a longtime active member and coach of the Corinth Little League program and attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church of Lake Luzerne for several years. John was a member and leader of the country band “The Johnny Lyng and Sundown Band” for many years, performing in many venues throughout the Northeast. Following his retirement, with his wife, family and close friends, he enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals and also enjoyed staying at his camp on Paradise Lane. He loved spending time there with his family, and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to fish. His granddaughter Kristin said “he never missed a thing with me or our boys”, and always tried to look through difficulties saying, “Well punk, it’ll get better”. He would do anything from dressing up at Halloween, to sitting on the floor playing cars, to giving up a Yankees game for cartoons. He also enjoyed his grandsons sports (never missing a Little League game), and was an avid NY Yankees fan. Survivors besides his loving wife of 55 years include two children, John C. Lyng Jr. (Mary) of Corinth and Jackie Sue Lyng of Corinth; four grandchildren, Kristin A. Lyng (Dave Barnes) of Corinth, Katrina Allison (TJ Hickey) of South Corinth, David Delamater of Corinth and Williamsburg, Va., and Erica Brimhall (Frank Denes) of Corinth; five great-grandchildren, D.J., Kris, Raegan, Ayden, Prestyn; one sister, Cindy Eggleston of Corinth; one brother-in-law, William “Butch” Fuller (Patti) of Florida; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 at the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth with the Rev. David Beaulac, officiating. Burial will be at Corinth Rural Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank his “punker” Kristin, Father Dave, Nancy and Peter Watts, Fran and Larry Willett, Billy and Pam Fuller, Chrissie Carleton, Dr. George Siniapkin and the staff at D1 and ICU at Saratoga Hospital for the care and kindness shown to John during his illness. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials take the form of donations to Corinth Little League, 13 Raymond St., Corinth, NY 12822 or St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, PO 211, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846.
