SARATOGA SPRINGS - Madeleine Y. Ortoleva, 89, of Saratoga Springs passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013.
Born Aug. 6, 1923, in Reims, France, she was the daughter of the late Etienne and Jeanne Fontaine.
She attended college in France and was a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs.
She earned a master's degree and Ph.D. from SUNY Albany. Madeleine taught French and French literature at Skidmore College for 30 years, retiring as a full professor in 1986.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael J. Ortoleva Sr., four brothers and two sisters.
Madeleine is survived by her sons, Ronald Ortoleva and his wife, Janice, of Ontario, Canada, and Michael Ortoleva Jr. of New York City; two grandchildren, Anthony Ortoleva (Ashley) and Angela Ortoleva (Bob), all of Ontario, Canada; her sister, Simonne Brodier of France; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to a local food pantry in memory of Madeleine.
