NANCY B. DAVIS
North Kingstown, RI - Nancy B. Davis, 90, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, formerly of Saratoga Springs, New York, passed away on March 13, 2013. Nancy was born in Highland, California, on September 9, 1922, the daughter of the Reverend Charles and Gertrude (Kahn) Davis. She was educated in the Wakefield, Massachusetts, public school system, graduating in 1940 from Wakefield High School. Nancy studied at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, receiving a B.S. degree in Physical Education in 1944. She then went on to earn a master's degree at Smith College and continued her graduate study at Boston University, Ithaca College, and the State University of New York. She then entered the teaching profession at the University of Maine and the University of Maryland before becoming a professor of physical education at Skidmore College in 1948, retiring as an Associate Professor Emerita in 1987. During her long and illustrious tenure at Skidmore, Nancy inspired several generations of Skidmore students with her encouraging attitude, thorough preparation, and high level of professionalism. Nancy held leadership roles in several professional organizations including the Eastern Association for Physical Education of College Women (EAPECW) and the National Association for Physical Education of College Women (NAPECW). She received the prestigious Merit Award from the EAPECW in 1979 and an Outstanding Service Award from Skidmore College in 1985. Nancy was inducted into the Skidmore College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. Nancy was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club.
Nancy is survived by her twin sister, Barbara Roberts, of South Kingstown, Rhode Island (formerly of Warwick), a nephew, Brad Davis of San Diego, California, a nephew, Toby Roberts, of Narragansett, a nephew, Charles Roberts of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and a niece, Nancy Roberts Ransohoff of Santa Barbara, California. A committal service will take place at a later date.
