Peter Kevin Fitzpatrick Obituary
SARANAC LAKE - Peter Kevin Fitzpatrick passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, after an almost four-year battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 24, 1949, he was the son of the late Robert and Leola (Russom) Fitzpatrick.
He was a member of the Saratoga Springs High School Class of 1967.
In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Fitzpatrick O'Donovan.
Survivors include his companion, Christine McCoy of Saranac Lake; his daughter, Leslie Staigar Dussault and her husband, Scott, of Wilton; his son, Sean Fitzpatrick of East Falmouth, Mass.; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Jackie Fitzpatrick of McKinney, Texas; his nieces and nephews, Stacey (Mark) Herhusky of Lake Tahoe, Christopher O'Donovan of Auburn and Scott Fitzpatrick, Dan (Alyssa) Fitzpatrick and Shannon (Marty) Hauser, all of Texas; and his grandchildren, Trae and Keegan Dussault of Wilton. He is also survived by Christine's brothers, Peter McCoy and Franklin John (Janet) McCoy.
Pete worked in the bartending business his entire life at such places as the Albany Airport, Saratoga Race Course, The Wishing Well, 43 Phila Street, Bishop's Gate, The Ripe Tomato and The Big Apple. He lived and bartended in Florida, Las Vegas, Whiteface Mountain and The Lodge in Lake Placid. If you went to the Wishing Well (or any of the other bars that he worked in), the only channel that was ever tuned in was one with golf on it.
Pete was an avid golfer and spent many days at McGregor Country Club.
He loved his racehorses and was known to bet a race or two at the Saratoga Race Course or OTB.
Pete loved living in Saranac Lake with Christine. He enjoyed his new friends and neighbors, but what he loved the most were the animals that frequented his yard - deer, chipmunks, squirrels, bluebirds, etc. He also loved visiting with and taking care of the neighborhood dogs - Cash, Beanie, Cedar, Whoopie and Katie.
His grandchildren adored the times they spent with him and Christine. He taught them to shoot bb guns, drive the golf cart to Jurassic Park, fish off Jenny's Rock and many other wonderful things that they will never forget!
Special thanks go out to Christine McCoy for all of the love and compassion that she has given to him during this time; he would have never made it this long without her. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Oncology Department at Adirondack Medical Center, Post Office Pharmacy, Fitzpatrick Cancer Center at CVPH Medical Center, High Peaks Hospice and family, friends and neighbors.
In keeping with his wishes, Pete requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Tri-Lakes Humane Society, P.O. Box 1111, Saranac Lake, NY 12983; or to High Peaks Hospice, 19 Church St., Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
A gathering and service for all friends, family and those who wish to pay respects will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Burke/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs; 584-5373.
