BALLSTON LAKE - Robert Lynn Friend, 62, of Ballston Lake died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa.
Bob was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of the late Lloyd L. Friend Jr. and Jean (Leyman) Friend.
He spent his childhood in New Jersey and later in Saratoga Springs, graduating from Saratoga High School in 1968.
Bob graduated from Boston University in 1972 and earned his M.B.A. in 1986 from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho.
Bob recently retired from New York Independent System Operator in Rensselaer, where he worked in customer relations.

Bob was an American history buff and loved to cook and grill, finding Mary and her son, Andy Van Vranken, willing participants in his creations.
He was also a diehard Boise State Broncos fan, welling up whenever he watched the games on TV and swearing that he would get back there someday.
He looked forward each year to their trips to Maine, walking the beaches, exploring Portland and surrounding areas and enjoying delicious seafood.
