Ronald Phelps Obituary
Ronald Phelps Saratoga Springs, NY – Ronald Phelps passed away early Thursday morning, July 5, 2012, at Saratoga Hospital after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 77. Born in Manlius, he was the son of the late Raymond and Angelina Phelps. He resided in Burnt Hills, NY for 36 years before moving to Saratoga Springs. Ron started his career with GE at the age of 17 and retired as a manager in Power Systems in 1991. He then did consulting for an additional 10 years. He proudly served his country in the Air Force and received his bachelors degree from Empire State College. Ron and his wife Kathy volunteered for 15 years at the Double H Ranch. Working with the kids at the camp brought him great joy. He also volunteered for the Catholic Charities of Saratoga and served on several boards, including Mildred Elley for 30 years. Ron loved fishing at the 1000 Islands, spending time in Cape Cod and Schroon Lake with his family and watching the NY Yankees, his favorite baseball team. Ron had a great love for his family and is survived by his wife or 54 years, Kathleen Collin Phelps (Kathy); his three children, Katie (John) Raife of Phoenix, AZ, Steve (Lisa) Phelps of Shelbourn, VT, Kristin (Jack) Parrish of Wilton; was known as “Poppy” to his 8 grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Raife, Matthew, Alicia and Eric Phelps, Mackenzie, Michael and Thomas Parrish; his brothers, Raymond and Richard (Barbara) Phelps of Syracuse; his brother-in-law David (Nancy) Collin; sister-in-law Sue Collin and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call from 10am to 1pm Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9am Monday, July 9, 2012 at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Farrell, Dr. Gumustop and Dr. Mastrianni for the excellent care they provided Ron.
