Dr. Russell B. Peacock Obituary
Dr. Russell B. Peacock Greenfield Center - Dr. Russell B. Peacock, 81 of Greenfield Center, a longtime area physician, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012. Dr. Peacock was born January 6, 1931 in Schenectady, son of the late Ruanna and Russell Peacock and stepson of George Kuebler. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1948 and enlisted in the Army where he was stationed with the 2nd Division 38th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War from 1950-53. He returned home and became a graduate of Southern Illinois University in 1957. He continued his education and went on to graduate from University of Illinois in 1962 with his medical degree. He moved to Ballston Spa and opened his general medical practice on West High Street in 1963. He remained active in the Military through the New York Army National Guard (NYARNG) and was selected as the 1991 US Army National Guard Flight Surgeon of the Year. This award is given by the Society of US Army Flight Surgeons to Flight Surgeons who best represent the high ideals and standards set forth in Army aviation medicine. Dr. Peacock retired as Colonel from the NYARNG in 1995 and is recognized as a Brigadier General with the NY State Militia. In addition to Dr. Peacock's private practice that he maintained through 1988, he was the physician for the Saratoga County Correctional Facility, an attending physician at the Saratoga County Infirmary as well as the former Benedict Memorial Hospital, the school physician for the Ballston Spa Central School District and was an elected Coroner for Saratoga County. He gave as selflessly to his community as he gave to his family and in any of his spare time enjoyed just about every aspect of his life; sailing, flying, woodworking, and classical music were among his favorites. He could always be found in his workshop building or fixing something. Dr. Peacock was a consummate philosopher of life and above all else, took great pleasure in learning. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Darlene Spies Peacock; his children, LTC Craig and his wife Kathy, Dr. Jama Peacock Birsett, CPT(R) Larry, CPT Richard and his wife, Brittany, Elizabeth DeCrescenzo and her husband Robert; granddaughters, Sharise, Teagan, Rylee, Nevaeh, Alexandra, Sophia, Gabrielle, and Quinlyn; grandsons, Donald Birsett III and Andrew; sister, Elizabeth Austin; brothers, Richard Peacock, David Kuebler, George Kuebler, Earl Kuebler; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends. A memorial service will be held 10am Friday, May 25, at Christ Episcopal Church, 15 West High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1-3 and 5-8pm Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Honor Guard at the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
