She was born Sept. 2, 1948, in Lake Luzerne, the daughter of Garnet and Ellen (Thomas) Gensel. She graduated from Hadley Luzerne Central School, a member of the Class of 1966.
Susan owned and operated TJ's Bar and Grill in Corinth and worked for Prudential Manor Homes Real Estate in Saratoga Springs.
Susan was an advocate for the elderly, which led to her opening Elder Care Staffing Registry. She was the matriarch of the family and was happiest when they were all together. She loved to travel with her husband, Tom, to the national parks and Las Vegas, with the family to Englewood and Venice, Fla., and her favorite trip to Disney with Tom, her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She had a beautiful voice, was an avid reader, always smiled and had the ability to find the best in everything and the good in everyone.
Her parents, Garnet and Ellen Gensel, predeceased her.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Corrigan of Glen Lake; her daughter, Maureen Corrigan Lanfear, and her children, Patrick and Kara; her son, Sean Corrigan, her daughter in-law, Melissa Corrigan, and their son Kiernan, who was born on Grandma's birthday; her sisters, Sally and Kenny Deuel and Stacey Gensel; her uncles, Syd Thomas, Merve and Joyce Thomas and aunt Lou Gensel; her brother-in-law, Patrick Corrigan; her sister in-law, Kay and Ron Williamson; nieces and nephews, Susan Corrigan-Staton, Nadine Healey, John Goodro, Nicole Beaty, Sonia Deuel, Paul Deuel and Kenny Gump Deuel; her extended family of friends; and her lifelong, true blue friend, Sharon White Maetta, all who will miss her dearly.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Brewer Funeral Home Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, following the morning calling hours, with the Rev. Michael Burkley officiating.
The celebration of Susan's life will continue following the services at her son Sean's home.
Burial will take place in the spring.
For those who wish, memorial donations in Susan's name are suggested to a local soup kitchen or food pantry.
