SARATOGA SPRINGS - Walter E. Crawford, 78, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, where he received loving care since March 2010.
He was born Sept. 16, 1934, in Whitehall, N.Y., to the late Kenneth and Margaret Crawford.
Following his service in the United States Air Force, Walt worked as a computer programmer for Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Niskayuna for 36 years.
Always eager to learn, he studied theology at St. Joseph's and philosophy at Siena, as well as having been a graduate of The College of Saint Rose.
Even after retiring from working with computers for so many years, he still got a great deal of enjoyment from the time he spent on his computer, whether it was to communicate with friends or perhaps to "tweak" some of the programming to his liking. He was so happy to be able to stay in contact via Skype with friends and always looked forward to those chats. Walt had gathered items for care packages to be sent to Iraq to the troops stationed there. Friends will surely remember his love of music, especially opera.
Walt is survived by his cousins, Nancy Dutton of Stafford Springs, Conn., and Patricia Delamater of Port Kent, N.Y.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ballston Spa.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Milton Avenue in Ballston Spa, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ballston Spa.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Armer Funeral Home Inc., 39 E. High St., Ballston Spa.
