She was 84 years old. Born on November 13, 1928 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Charles Van Houten and Frances Greenwald Van Houten. Mrs. Arnush was a teacher in the New York City School system until 1966. Roz, as she was fondly known, had a passion for art and art history, having worked in Phoenix at the Phoenix Art Museum, and at California State-Fullerton, as both a museum docent and developer of the docent programs at both institutions. Roz was an enthusiastic promoter of the arts and art education, inspiring many with the same passion for visual learning, which was also reflected by her work at the Sue Brown Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. In her leisure, Roz enjoyed traveling extensively with her family, with friends, and also by herself. While residing in Saratoga Springs for the last nine years, Roz expanded her intellectual horizons by taking many courses with the faculty of Skidmore College. Mrs. Arnush is pre-deceased by her husband Mortimer Arnush, who died on May 19, 1990. She is also pre-deceased by a brother, Robert Van Houten, and a brother-in-law, Donald Arnush. Survivors include her two sons, Carl D. Arnush of Los Angeles, CA, and Michael F. Arnush and his wife Leslie C. Mechem of Saratoga Springs, NY, a sister in-law Terry Arnush of Palos Verdes, CA, her three grandchildren in Los Angeles, Nicole Fay, Hannah Louise and Maxine Rose, her former daughter-in-law Ruth Arnush also in Los Angeles, and several nieces and nephews in the US and UK. Graveside services will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA on Thursday June 20, 2013 at 3 p.m. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Tunison Funeral Home 105 Lake Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Online remembrances can be made at
