Edward Boyle Obituary

Edward Joseph Boyle - SAVANNAH - Edward Joseph Boyle, 83, died peacefully Sunday, October 28, 2012. A native of New York he attended Fordham University on a football scholarship, where he played football under Coach Vince Lombardi. After graduating from Fordham, Ed entered the United States Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant. In 1953 he met and married Phyllis Vance, his wife of 59 years, and they immediately relocated to Cambridge, MA where Ed received an MBA from Harvard. Ed spent his career in supplying motor controls for aerospace and industrial use, while Phyllis was busy stoking the home fires, tending to kids and their needs and occasionally substitute teaching. They settled in Mansfield, OH where Ed founded his own company, and where they successfully raised seven children, 3 girls and 4 boys. Ed's avocation was flying, at which he was a whiz. His instrument rating and many flight hours afforded the family fine adventures and helped greatly in his business. In addition he and Phyllis had many wonderful vacations here and abroad, especially enjoying river cruises in the states and Europe. They retired to The Landings twenty years ago and have been happily ensconced and spoiled at The Marshes for the past six years. Surviving in addition to his wife, Phyllis, are his seven children and their spouses, Kathleen and Allen Martin of Kalamazoo, MI, Samuel and Krista Boyle of Locust Grove, GA, Victoria and Kurt Scheider and Justin and Jennifer Boyle of Park City, UT, Paula and Robert Strom of Cincinnati, OH, Matthew and Joan Boyle of Sanduskey, OH, and Peter and Nell Boyle of Roanoke, VA; a brother and a sister, John Boyle and Patricia Kane, both of Long Island, NY; 16 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at St. James Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the church. The inurnment will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Catholic Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity. Dear Boyle Family
Your father was the most fun guy to play golf with that I have met in the past 24 years at the Landings. He and I were not the best golfers but he was for sure the best person to play golf with. God Bless...Joe malone
