Julian Sturgess

Julian Clyde Sturgess, Jr. - SAVANNAH - Julian Clyde Sturgess, Jr., 84, returned to his Heavenly Father and joined the love of his life, Helen Juanita Wilson Sturgess, on Saturday, June 8, 2013. Julian was born on July 12, 1928 and raised in the Old Montgomery section of Savannah. His parents were Julian Clyde Sturgess and Thelma Chester. Julian was a long-time machinist supervisor at the Savannah Shipyard, an active member of IAM # 96, and a US Army Veteran. A devout member of Radiant Life Christian Fellowship Church, Julian previously served as a deacon and was actively involved in expanding and maintaining the church facility. Julian and his loving wife, Helen began Unto Him a ministry through which they gave aid to the homeless. Many were brought into their home for food and shelter. Their doors and arms were always open to anyone in need. Their table was always open to feed the hungry. In addition to his parents and wife, Julian was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Darrow and Elizabeth Shinall; granddaughter, Amy Johns Pye, and great granddaughter, Jennifer Hearon. Survivors include his children, Marilyn Hearon (Jim), Clyde Sturgess (Judy), Frances Johns (Ed), Jimmy Sturgess (Nancy), Bobby Sturgess (Beckie), Richard Sturgess, Julie Therrell, Nita Scott (Charles); 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Kibicki, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Radiant Life Christian Fellowship Church- 5619 Skidaway Road, with Reverend David Stanton officiating. Interment: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, James Hearon, Jr., John Sturgess, Ed Johns, Jr., Rob Sturgess, Chris Sturgess, and David Laufman. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Chad Sturgess, Matthew Johns, Jason Johns, Marc Sturgess, Justin Therrell, Richie Sturgess, and Jordan Sturgess. A special thank you to the doctors, residents, nurses and staff on the 5th floor of Memorial Medical Hospital for the outstanding care and support they gave to Julian Sturgess and his family during this difficult time.
