Myrtle Kimball

Myrtle Lou Davis Kimball - SAVANNAH - Myrtle Kimball was born in Kirkland, Georgia on February 10th to McCoy & Emma Belch. She came to Savannah as the young bride of Downer K. Davis, Sr. She began her career as a secretary at Union Bag followed by a legal secretary position at Connerat, Dunn, Hunter & McClean. She later completed her undergraduate degree at Armstrong Atlantic State University and was awarded her Masters Degree in Education from Georgia Southern University. She began her teaching career at Hancock Day School and later was a Reading Specialist for the Chatham County Public School System. She married Jerry Kimball on April 7th, 1981. They were long time members of the Bull Street Baptist Church and also members of the Couples Sunday School Class. The dynamic couple proceeded to dance their way around the world. They were exquisite ballroom dancers instructed by Ken Howard at the Butterfly Studio. Their specialty was the Viennese Waltz for which they took top honors. They were charter members of the Penguin Club for ballroom dance. She and Jerry were inducted into the National Hispanic Honors Society, Sigma Delta Pi. They lived life to the fullest, continued their education by taking Spanish classes at AASU. They were instrumental in starting the Gary Fodor Scholarship Fund at AASU. In the summer of 1989 they attended The University of Salamanca, Salamanca Spain as the first Senior Foreign Exchange Students from AASU. They were active members of the AASU Alumni Association. Known to her family, affectionatly as Mom she leaves behind her son Downer K. Davis, Jr. and daughter-in-law Ann Davis; two grandchildren Kane Coleman and Poppy Davis; five great-grandchildren Taylor, Kaila, Masyn, Davis and Daisy. She is survived by two sisters Sue Pearson and Maxine Williams and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 6th, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gary Fodor Scholarship, Armstrong Atlantic State University Foundation, 11935 Abercorn Street, Savannah, Georgia 31419.
