Valerie Sipe Adams

Tallahassee, FL - Valerie Sipe Adams, 87, died at Westminster Oaks Health Center on January 31, 2004 after a long illness. Mrs. Adams was a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She spent her youth in North Carolina where she demonstrated a life-long love of learning by being named Valedictorian of her high school class. Before moving to Tallahassee in 1997, she lived in Jackson, MS, for 45 years following 12 years in Richmond, VA, as she moved with her husbands career. Mrs. Adams was a licensed pilot in the 1930's, a bookkeeper, homemaker, teacher and self-taught accountant. She worked at St. Andrews Academy as a physical education instructor and later for the accounting firm of Grifford Alford, CPA in Jackson. She was a 25-year member and former President of the Jackson Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants. Mrs. Adams was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jackson. She volunteered her services to many charitable organizatio ns and individuals over the years. Mrs. Adams was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Emil J. Adams, in 1999. Survivors include, Mrs. Adams is survived by her four children and their spouses, Ann Adams Buckley and Russ Buckley of Estes Park, CO, Jane Adams Nangle and John F. Nangle of Savannah, GA, E. John Adams, Jr. and Rebecca Jackson Adams of Tallahassee, FL, and Lynn Adams Long and William G. Long, Jr. of Madeira Beach, FL; nine grandchildren, Lisa Buckley Mohan, Karen Buckley Irwin, Suzanne Buckley Klein, Marthajane Caldwell, James E. Caldwell, Jr., Patricia Adams Hogan, Amy Adams Cooper, Bill Long and Bobby Long; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Gilliam of Spring City, TN, and a brother, Albert Sipe of Oak Ridge, TN; and a host of in-laws and other close relatives. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Westminster Oaks, Parry Center, 4449 Meandering Way, Tallahassee, FL.
