William Cliett

Mr. William Oscar (Boysie) Cliett, Sr. - MERRITT ISLAND, FL - Mr. William O. (Boysie) Cliett, Sr. passed away peacefully on October 18, after a short illness. Mr. Cliett a native Savannahian, resided in Merritt Island, Fl. for over 50 years where he was a communicant of Divine Mercy Catholic Church. He was born in Savannah on July 14, 1921 to Flem G. and Margaret Fogarty Cliett. He graduated from the old Marist School, and was in the 1941 graduating class from Benedictine Military School. Mr. Cliett, like many of his peers proudly served his country in both the Atlantic and Pacific as a member of the United States Navy during World War 11. Following the war, he attended the Citadel in Charleston, SC. He was also a Captain in the Ga. Army National Guard and was a member of the Chatham Artillery. Mr. Cliett is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Margaret McDermott Cliett and wife Leona Tawney Cliett, stepdaughter Regina Tawney, daughter-in-law Elinor Tawney. Survivors are brother Flem G. Cliett Jr. of Metter, Ga.; and Mr. Cliett's children William O. Cliett Jr. (Ellen) Savannah Ga.; Ellen R. Phillips (Mike) of Titusville, Fl.; Susan Kosko (Maurice) Atlanta, Ga.; Joseph McDermott Cliett (Maureen) Savannah, Ga.; Frederick A. Cliett (Susan) Orlando, FL.; Stepsons Ralph Tawney Merritt Island, FL. and Billy Tawney (Sandy) of Wharton Texas; eight grand children, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Burial will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery 1600 Wheaton Street.
