Henry Singleton Obituary

Henry Singleton - SAVANNAH - Henry Singleton was born on March 24, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA. He joined the United States Army in 1943 where he fought in WWII. In 1951 he signed with the Harlem Globetrotters playing until 1953. He retired from the New York Transit Authority in 1986 after 26 years of service. He moved to Savannah in 1994 after the death of his wife. He leaves to cherished his memory, two daughters Cynthia Rhetta (Gilmore) and Denise Lockhart both of Savannah, GA; two sons, Henry Marcus and Steven George, both of NYC; eighht grandchildren, Larry "Scooby" Floyd, Jr. (Ketra), Danasia Janell Floyd, Tiana Janine Parrish (Kevin), Shaina Charysse M. Lockhart, Anias Jarrell Rhetta, Henry " Lil Hank " Singleton, Glonise Singleton and Steven Singleton; five great- grandchildren: Ashya Floyd, Jarron Greene, Zekiah Frazier-Floyd, Larry Floyd, III, Kennede Parrish; sister, Regina Williams; niece, Lucille Jarrell of NYC; three nephews: Melvin Singleton of Philadelphia, PA, Earl Williams of Baltimore, MD, Virgie Ford of NYC; long time best friends, Hattie, Mozelle, Bill; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Funeral service will be held with full Military Honors, 11am Friday, July 9, 2010 at Christ Memorial Baptist, Church, 1143 Mohawk Street, Rev. Larry Broxton, Pastor/Eulogist. Public viewing: Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 10am-6pm at the funeral home. Mr. Singleton will lie in state Friday at the church from 9am until hour of service. Mr. Henry was a wonderful man and a great neighbor. I was able to see him and get a picture together several weeks ago. I knew he had been ill, but he would never let you know it. Thanks for sharing you dad with us.
