Barbara Bobbie Cornell Herndon - PORT WENTWORTH - Barbara Bobbie Cornell Herndon, 85, of Port Wentworth, Ga., passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 30, 2013. She was born in Savannah, Ga and spent her childhood in Thunderbolt. Bobbie lived many years in Port Wentworth with her beloved husband of 69 years, Richard E. Herndon, who she met at a USO dance on York Street. Bobbie attended Chatham Junior High School and Savannah High School. She was a loving mother and homemaker, avid camper, a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves and an active member of the Oscar Bell Sunday School Class at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. She spent many happy times with Richard in the South Bell Pioneer Organization. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward C. Cornell and Hattie Wells Cornell, her brothers, Ralph Cornell, Edward Cornell, sister, Audrey Madison. She is survived by her four children: Barbara (William) Hamilton, Brooklet, Ga; Richard (Helen) Herndon, Jr., of Midway, Ga; Nancy (William) Barbee, of Hardeeville, S.C., and Linda (Butch) Usher of Pinehurst, NC;six grandchildren: Kelly (John) Shipes, Chrissy (Ricky) Durden, Emily Barbee, Eliot (Ashley) Usher, Tracy (John) Middleton and Keith (Derisa) Hamilton; five great-grand children, Nora Grace Usher, William Shipes, Riley Barbee, Caitlyn and Carson Hamilton and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. Interment: Bonaventure Cemetery.
