Billy Braswell Obituary

Billy H. Braswell, Sr. - CENTERVILLE - Billy H. Braswell, Sr., 75, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009, in Macon, GA. Mr. Braswell was born on February 13, 1934 in Black, Alabama. He was the son of the late Henry L. and Mary Agnes (Summerset) Braswell. His military career spanned from 1952 to 1973, having served in the United States Air Force, Army and Navy Reserves. He was a 53 year union operating engineer with local #474 in Savannah, GA and was the past Dept. of GA DAV State Commander and Adjutants having served offices from 1978-1999. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter #33 in Warner Robins, Chapter #8 in Savannah, Chapter #33 in New Mexico, VFW Post # 6605 in Warner Robins and also the Commander and Adjutants Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post #174, Vietnam Veteran Chapter # 443, National Order of Trench Rats Dugout #383 and the At-Large Chapter of the AM-Vets. He was a member of the Calumet Lodge #716 A.F. & A.M. in Hazel Crest, IL and a member of the York Rite & Scottish Rite bodies and the Al Sihah Temple in Macon. He was a member of the Pembroke United Methodist Church in Pembroke, GA. Survivors include his wife of 48 years Loretta S. Braswell of Centerville, son Billy H. Braswell, Jr. of Perry, daughter, Deborah M. (Frank) Stewart of Leesburg, GA, grandchildren, Brittini M. (Joel Michael, II) McNally of CA, Cheyenne Braswell of Pinnacle, NC, Brandon T. Stewart of Leesburg, GA, sister Ruby J. Alford of Bloomingdale, GA, many nieces and nephews and a dear friend Richard Fleming of Fletcher, NC. Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5PM until 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Tulley Griggs will officiate. To the family of Mr. Braswell, i am sorry for your loss, While i not ever met any of you ,i had the pleasure of meeting Billy when we both were in the naval reserves "SEABEES' in Savannah Ga. My memory of him was as a very good person, & we will him dearly Through the years i had spoken with him on several occasions on the phone.
