Charles Edward Slater, Sr. - COBBTOWN - Charles Edward Slater, Sr., age 82, of Viera, Florida, died Monday the 27th of May (Memorial Day). He was born to the late Troy Delmas and Essie Mae Slater in Cobbtown, GA. Charles retired as a Naval Commander after 30 years of service. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he did multiple tours in the Gulf of Tonkin. Following his military career, he returned to college at Florida State University in Tallahassee where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business proceeded by a Law Degree. Charles (Chuck) is survived by his wife; Ann Slater; three children; Lynn Atchinson, Jim Slater, and Nancy Nygaard; one sister Annette Branch; two brothers Alton of Metter and Glenn Slater of Cobbtown, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Charles is predeceased by his first wife of 30 years, Ruby Slater and a son, Charles Edward Slater, Jr. Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 PM, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery.
