Charles Anderson Obituary

Charles William "Billy" Anderson, Sr. - SAVANNAH - Charles William Anderson, Sr., 88 died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Memorial University Medical Center. Billy was born in Savannah, Georgia to Robert H. and Leila Reid Anderson. He served his country in the United States Navy for four years during World War II. He participated in eight invasions in the Atlantic and Pacific. He retired after 45 years as the owner of Robert H. Anderson Produce Company which started in 1921 at the old Historic City Market. He was a member of the Guyton United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eleanor Franklin Anderson, of Savannah, two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles William, Jr. "Bill" and Ann Anderson, of Savannah and Robert Franklin and Brenda Anderson, of Guyton, two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy A. and Gerald Smith, of Greensboro, GA and Julie A. and W. Craig Smith, Sr. of Savannah. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Krista S. Schumann, of North Carolina, Laurie A. Adams, of Guyton, Lisa E. Smith, of Virginia, Kimberly A. Barlowe, of Guyton, Marianne A. Brantley, of Guyton, William Craig Smith, Jr., of Savannah, Emily R. Anderson, of Savannah, and Amanda S. Lewis, of Savannah, one sister, Thelma A. Bailey, of Greer, S.C., thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery with the Reverend Chip Strickland officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances be made to the Guyton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Guyton, GA 31312.
